Yesterday, I joined Fox Business Host Neil Cavuto to discuss the negative impact higher minimum wages, paid leave and higher health insurance costs related to Obamacare are having on people eating out. As I pointed out during the segment, restaurants are at a unique disadvantage even with lower commodity costs. Unlike grocery stores which are charging lower prices due to lower labor costs associated with their business model, restaurants have had to raise prices to cover higher labor costs. Along with other factors like higher insurance premiums and deductibles tied to Obamacare, which reduces consumers’ disposable income, these factors have created the largest gap between people eating at home and eating out since the recession ended. The segment is entitled: CKE Restaurants CEO on minimum wage debate.
