On February 13, 2019, Andy spoke with Martha MacCallum about New York Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s proposed Green New Deal, which is described as a series of broad proposals centered around eliminating U.S. carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels while also claiming to revitalize the economy.

“[Alexandria] Ocasio-Cortez has made the mistake of telling the American people exactly what the progressive socialists want to do – they want the government to control virtually everything,” explains Andy. “They want to take our freedoms, our liberties, and our wallets…and they are going to use climate change as a bludgeon to transform America from a free-market capitalist democracy into a socialist totalitarian state.”
To delve further into the topic, Martha and Andy discussed Andy’s recent op-ed titled, “Watch the latest video at <a href="https://www.foxnews.com">foxnews.com</a>“>Socialism vs. Capitalism– I want my grandchildren to know this story could only happen here,” where he shared details of his personal story regarding a lesson on capitalism that he learned while delivering a car with his Dad (a Ford car salesman at the time). Andy points out that there has never been a country in the history of the world where a working-class kid like him would be able to climb the ranks to become a lawyer and eventually the CEO of a multi-billion-dollar company.
Next, Martha touched on U.S. Senator Cory Booker’s quote claiming that the planet can’t continue to sustain billions of people consuming industrially produced animal agriculture because of environmental impact. To which Andy commented, “They’re trying to take an entire industry and have the government basically wipe it out.” He then emphasized that the consumer needs to make the decision on what they eat, not the food industry or the government.
In closing, Andy remarked on how the Green New Deal is actually good for Republicans as it’s absurdity will ultimately only harm the Democrat’s chances for 2020, “This Green Deal is so absurd… and Kimberley Strassel at the Wall Street Journal said it best… This Green [New] Deal is like the Republican’s 2020 secret weapon, we just have to sit back and watch it happen.”
