Appearances: Varney & Co. – Trucker Shortage and the Optimism on U.S. Jobs Hitting a New High

The U.S. has had a truck driver shortage for years, but experts say it’s hitting a crisis level this year. The economic upswing is creating heavy demand for trucks, but it’s hard to find drivers with unemployment so low. “I sure am glad we’re talking about too many jobs and not too many workers,” said Andy. “This is a very good problem to have… there are more people working in transportation now than have ever worked in transportation and there’s 290,000 job openings.”

Also, optimism about the availability of good jobs hit new heights. A recent Gallup poll reported that 67 percent of Americans believe that now is a good time to find a quality job in the U.S., the highest percentage in 17 years of Gallup polling. Not surprisingly, optimism about the availability of good jobs has also grown by 25 percentage points since Donald Trump was elected president. “For the past three months we’ve had over 155 million Americans working, that’s the most Americans that have been working in the history of the country,” said Andy. “We also have 6.6 million job openings, that’s the most job openings in the history of the country.”

Andy says that the economic boom we’re experiencing is being underreported by the press, but feels people are coming around and realizing that President Trump’s capitalist, free market policies are in everybody’s best interest. “The socialist, progressive policies that Obama and Bernie Sanders implemented and want to implement don’t really help people… they increase income inequality,” Andy said in closing.
