Earlier today, Andy joined CNBC’s Squawk Box to discuss President Trump’s announcement of imposing a 5% tariff on imports from Mexico to combat the illegal immigration issue at the border. Andy argued that this tariff isn’t intended to be an economic stimulus, but rather a way to address national security at the southern border.
“You have to look at these things differently. What we’ve done with steel tariffs, what we’re doing with the USMCA is based on economics. Free trade and fair trade are good for the economy. What he [President Trump] is doing in respect to these current [Mexico] tariffs is trying to address a national security issue at the border. They’re not the same, you can’t judge them the same,” concluded Andy.
